Whitelist Active
I now have a commenter white list. If you would like to test it, make a post. Anybody who isn't a spammer who comments on this entry will receive a whitelister status which means I won't have to approve your comments. This is based on email address, so you must provide one of these. Your email address with not be posted on the site or shared with anyone. It just allows me to reply to your comment via email. Hopefully the spammers won't catch on to this.

Anything that puts in a URL gets held for approval, but I set it up so that I can now whitelist accounts like yours based on e-mail. I doubt any of them will start spoofing whitelisted email addresses, but we'll see. I get quite a few comment spams each day. JJA's blog gets TONS for some reason.

You should be pretty safe from spam if you have to give clearance to individual addresses - most spam comes from bots, and they aren't that smart.
