LaunchPad 2007 Astronomy Science Workshop
My good friend Dr. Mike Brotherton is launching a free workshop in Laramie this summer. It's intended for writers with established audiences, and the goal is to give a crash course in modern astronomy science. There will be guest lectures from science fiction writer Jerry Oltion, telescope observation with the University of Wyoming's two telescopes, and some day hikes in the mountains. The whole thing is sponsored by NASA and should be a real hoot. I plan on going up for a few of the activities if I can get away from work. The deadline for applying is May 1st, and he has money available for travel stipends, so you could possibly end up with pretty much everything paid for. At the worst, you'll have to get yourself to Denver International and pay for a few meals. In particular, Mike's funding is aimed at minorities and women , so your chances of being selected to attend increase with those factors. Go now, apply at the website!
