Photo of the Day: Dripping Dafodil

Dripping Dafodil, originally uploaded by JeremyT.

I know the morning sky before I fully wake up. Three walls of our bedroom are lined with high windows, and from my bed, I can see the sky. I wake up slowly most days. I can feel part of me fixating on the light of the sky, seeming to consider its appearance as an omen for the day to come. Today should be a slow day, I think. The sky is a melancholy gray, the kind of color that whispers to the seasonally depressed that they should just stay in bed and watch daytime soap operas with the sound down. I know I hear it at least. But I get up anyway.

It's raining again today. On my walk to work, I have to keep my eyes on the ground to avoid stepping on the scores of worms that were taking refuge on the sidewalk. Again, I think about taking the day off, and doing my karma some good; wandering my neighborhood and rescuing the worms from certain doom as the city wakes and joggers begin their pounding of the pavement. But karma, it doesn't rate highly on the hierarchy of needs, I'm afraid. The day job awaits, and I have websites to build.
