Photo of the Day: Preening Egrets

I went back to this place on Sunday, thinking that this log would be a good place to sit and wait for something to show up, and boy was I right. The only problem was, these egrets landed behind another piece of the log, and from my hiding place, I didn't have a shot at them. I crawled on my belly through the grass, sliding over about six feet and leaning out to get this shot, which is still cropped quite a bit more than I would have liked. Ideally, this shot would be a full body egret shot, if I had the lenses. Ah well.

They finally spotted me and flew away shortly after this, but I like this shot, particularly for how the egrets are framed by the log and the reflections in the water.

I am really looking forward to getting up at dawn next saturday to head back to this same spot and set up for whatever will come my way.
