Photo of the Day: Electric Violin Busker

Electric Violin Busker, originally uploaded by JeremyT.

I have a fascination with buskers, especially the ones that play unusual instruments. You can't throw a rock in Boulder or downtown Fort Collins and not hit a hippie playing a guitar. But this was the first time I had ever seen someone playing an electric violin. This was taken near Trafalgar Square, near a famous church with a name that escapes me because it was closed for renovations.

Most of the buskers in London are on the Tube, though. Paul, one of my mother's local friends, said that they're all licensed there. I don't think there's any licensing in Fort Collins, but there might be in Boulder. Seems like an odd thing to license, but it's not like a busker's expenses are high.

I would like to try being a writer busker for a day. Get an old manual typewriter and a stack of paper, and head off to the main drag, and offer one page short shorts for $10 or something. Although, that makes me a street vendor and not exactly a busker. Can you think of some way a writer could busk?

Also: watched HBO's new show, John from Cincinnati last night. The critics have been panning it for being too weird. Those who love the fantasy genre might want to check it out. It has some great Fortean weirdness so far (even if it has religious overtones as well. I'm not exactly comfortable with those most of the time).
