Photo of the Day: Red Bursts

I woke up this morning thinking about the rivers in London and Paris. I think this is because we watched Paris J'taime last night, a film composed of many short films about Paris.

There is a big difference between the way the two cities treat their rivers. Both rivers are crucial to their identities, but Paris seems to embrace theirs more, in my mind. It's a smaller river, perhaps, width-wise, but the bridges are more intimate. The paths along it, closer. London's bridges tower over the Thames. It's probably as simple as the fact that the Thames was used for moving goods, and perhaps the Seine was not? I don't know. But I think it is one of the many little reasons that add up and leave me liking Paris just a little more. I wish I spoke French, and I wish I could spend more time there, hell, in both cities, to see if my feelings hold up.

It's overcast here today, and that means I just want to lay near a window and read. Instead, I work. Such is life.
