Photo of the Day: Tasting

Tasting, originally uploaded by JeremyT.

I found a nice bit of honeysuckle in the back yard after work that was covered with little ants foraging for dew. They didn't stay still very long, and my flash was having trouble. It turned out that part of the flash trouble was that my hat brim was pushing it down just enough to turn it off, and then the other problem was that my lens was blocking the flash. So I went back inside and built a tube extension for the flash out of note cards and masking tape. I even made it telescoping, so I could adjust the end point if necessary. Above, you can see the result of my experimentation.

Because this bundle of flowers was eye-level off the ground, I was able to use a tripod, which made everything a little easier and a little harder at the same time. My tripod doesn't allow very well for small movements. I'm going to have to get one of those slidy mounts for macro photography.

That's the thing about this craft. No matter how much money I spend, there's always another gadget I want. I doubt I'll ever be satisfied completely with my kit. But at least I can take pictures in the meanwhile.
