Finisterra by David Moles
David is an awesome writer. I just finished reading his story "Finisterra" in the December issue of F&SF, and it had fantastic sensawunda. One thing that I wish I could steal from him is how non-American-centric his people are. He blends hispanic and Arab cultures in completely believable ways, with details and bits of language that sell the piece really well. I'm not nearly world-experienced enough to ever pull that sort of thing off.
I also read maybe the second story I have ever read by M. Rickert called "Don't Ask." An odd story, with a really unique voice. I can see why Rickert is so popular with my friends.
