Strange Horizons Fiction: The End of Tin, by Bill Kte'pi
I've been a fan of Bill Kte'pi for quite some time now. I don't see nearly enough of his fiction anymore. I used to really look forward to seeing his name in my submissions pile at the old FB.
I think in a lot of ways, this is a prototypical SH fantasy story. The fantasy aspects are diaphanous, you could say-- but perhaps that isn't the right word? Everything blends together is what I mean. It's like paint mixing, creating new colors? Ostensibly, this is a story about the Tin Man from Oz, but there's more here than that. Bill runs Oz into Wonderland and even a bit of Narnia.
It's depressingly sad. Also par for the course with Strange Horizons lately. I can't remember the last upbeat SH story I read.
But well written, in Bill's distinctive way. I enjoyed it. Just wish it wasn't so depressing.
