Read: How to Hide Your Heart by Deb Coates
This week's Strange Horizons story has what I have come to expect from Strange Horizons. Great prose, a decent plotline, and characters that come alive. (Still a tad on the dark side, though.)
The world building left me wanting, a little. Taking the phylum of all monsters and boiling them down to sameness is not the way I would go, but for the purposes of the story, it works fine because all of that is almost tangential to what's really going on. The ending is pitch perfect, messy, confused, and slightly painful.
Recommended.
