An idea for a web resource for writers
I have an idea and I want to see if there's any point in doing it. Here's what I am thinking:
A lot of folks these days are posting their work online as reprints or whatnot. However, I find that often times, the fiction is formatted in a suboptimal way for reading on screen.
My thought was to put together an open source HTML/CSS/Javascript template to style and present stories in a pleasing way online, heavily commented for those who don't know HTML very well.
I've been thinking about how best to present my own reprints lately, so I was going to put some very detailed, thoughtful work into creating a good CSS framework. But if you all think that something like that might be useful to the greater public (you or people you know), drop me a comment in support.
Listening to Eric Marin on Adventures in SciFi Publishing this morning has made me nostalgic for the days of online publishing and editing. I am thinking about investigating the concept of online anthologies, and in particular, I'm interested in forming a brain trust of writers and editors to discuss the nature of internet-published fiction, and to see if there are certain kinds of stories that are better suited for the format than others. I'm not necessarily talking about hypertext fiction or anything, but the field is open. If you're interested in joining my brain trust, leave me a comment or shoot me an email. I want to put together a small group of folks to discuss this and hash it out. I want open-minded people willing to put some far-fetched ideas out there, and consider other far-fetched ideas.
