Attention is Power
R. Stevens is a very clever man, let there be no doubt about that. Today, he put something in words that I have been grasping for in the darkness of my muddled mind for. Combined with a comment from Nick yesterday, this comic has crystalized a bit of truth: Attention is power. Good or bad, it's power. Not only is it power, it's currency. One of the most precious things in the internet world is attention. I spend my attention frivolously. At times, I post about things here aiming to spend your attention frivolously.
I'm going to attempt to ignore the things I hate, like Maura. I'm going to instead speak passionately of the things that I love. Agent of Wonder, remember. I need to tape those three words to my monitor. I need to remind myself this every single day. Attention is power. Attention is currency. Spend it wisely.
